Christine is an Art Therapist & Counselor with a Masters degree in both Art Therapy and Counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. She has experience as an art therapist in residential and psychiatric treatment facilities as well as in pediatric hospitals.
In June of 2010, Christine moved to Delaware to work as an art therapist with children and adolescents in an alternative school setting. Art Therapy uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process helps people to resolve problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem, and achieve insight (American Art Therapy Association).
Christine believes that it was her faith in God that led her to be an art therapist and counselor. Although she feels that His role is integral in helping her personally provide the best treatment for each client, she will incorporate it into the therapy session only at the client’s request.
Due to her training as both an art therapist and counselor, she is experienced in providing treatment that will make her clients most comfortable while utilizing methods that are the most effective for the client’s personal goals. Although some are intimidated by making art, the value of art therapy is not found within the skill level of the client, but the process of using art materials for expression.
